On Nov 22, 2024, the first half of the movie Wicked arrived in theaters. There are many genres in this musical film, such as intense drama, great songs, and some comedic moments set inside the fantasy fictional land of Oz.
This movie has a history of being a Broadway production played by Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith. No one can live up to their Broadway play, but I can say that the Wicked film was very close. The Broadway production was a branch off from the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum with the characters Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tin Man.
It was a very iconic and old-fashioned film.
In the Wicked story, there are two women, Elphaba (Cynthia Eviro) and Galinda played by Ariana Grande. They both attend Shiz University and they meet when they have to share a room. Galinda is not happy about that but she “kindly” lets Elphaba stay with her. They loathe each other at the beginning but they start becoming friends during the story. They eventually notice they have some qualities in common and they begin to appreciate each other. Elphaba harnesses her magical power and the Wizard of Oz asks to meet her. Galinda accompanies her and they both meet the Wizard of Oz, but the Wizard is not what they expect.
The type of person I think would like this movie is someone who likes the Wizard of Oz and who likes old films made new. The theme of the movie is not to judge a book by its cover, or in other words, don’t judge other people just by the way they look.
Personally, I like this movie because it is exhilarating, fun and it’s a great fantasy film. Fantasy films help you enter a different world so you can use your imagination.
Paragraph about Cynthia’s controversy.
I give this film a 9 out of 10. The reason I didn’t choose 10 is because the movie will never live up to the Broadway show. The Broadway show has the amazing vocals from both Indina Menzel and Kristin Cheniworth.
All and all, the Wicked movie is an amazing hit to young and old!
